Jay Chou x L'Officiel Hommes

Editorial video for L'Officiel Hommes featuring Jay Chou.
An editorial cover shoot for L'Officiel Hommes with Taiwanese megastar Jay Chou, filmed across three locations, including a sky tower restaurant that was partly closed to the public for the production.
The Challenge
Editorial shoots move quickly, and this one moved faster still, shaped by the profile of the subject and his schedule. There were three very different locations to light.
The work was also destined for audiences across Asia, where the market tends to prefer soft, bright fashion lighting with minimal contrast. The look had to flatter the subject in a soft editorial style while still feeling cinematic.
How We Approached It
The first location was surrounded by windows, so exposure was set for the daylight and the key light was then shaped to complement Jay Chou without fighting the room.
The third location, an exclusive restaurant, was dark, tight and moody. Rather than fight it, we built the look from a single tube light and the existing windows.
What Made It Special
Fast, instinctive filmmaking in demanding spaces, with a lighting approach tuned to the market the work would be seen in. Jay Chou was a pleasure to work with and even helped direct a handful of shots.
