FRMEFEST x Nikon: Competition (Winner)

FRMEFEST x Nikon: Competition (Winner)

Video shot and edited by James Wajura that won first prize in the Action Videography Awards by Nikon at FRMEFEST, Sydney 2025.

A boxing film made in 24 hours at the Nikon activation at Framefest 2025, with five minutes in the ring to shoot and direct a fight choreography. It won the Action Videography category.

01

The Challenge

In 2025 I travelled to Sydney for a cinematography workshop and to see the latest gear from Sony, Nikon, Canon, Blackmagic Design and Fujifilm at Framefest. Nikon Australia ran a competition at the event: 24 hours to make a video at their boxing activation.

There was no brief, no plan and only five minutes in the ring.

02

How We Approached It

Instead of documenting the activation, the idea was to step into the world of boxing cinema, taking cues from Scorsese's Raging Bull: stark, close and physical. Working with two boxers, the fight was choreographed, directed and shot at the same time inside the short window in the ring.

03

What Made It Special

Total commitment to a single idea under real pressure. Direction and cinematography were handled together, so every move was designed for the camera in the moment.

04

The Reality

The film was awarded Winner of the Action Videography category at Framefest 2025.
